Finally the days of meticulous preparation under the direction of Danny Boyle paid off. The opening ceremony of the London Olympics 2012 was magnificent. Boyle had very well touched on the major aspects of British culture; green land representing the country side of UK, the Industrial revolution that had uplifted the face of our country, the very important NHS (National Health Service), films and music which forms an important part of our cultural life.

Sir Steve Redgrave who is the five time gold medal winner carried the Olympic flame into the stadium accompanied by the first seven of the British Olympic heroes. The heroes were Duncan Goodhew, Lynne Davies, Dame Kelly Holmes, Shirley Robertson, Dame Mary Peters and Daley Thompson.

This time Olympic Cauldron was lit by not someone who was a past Olympian but seven young British athletes who were each personally nominated by the country’s Olympians. As soon as the cauldron had burst into a ring of flames, it marked the official start of the games. The grand event was culminated with a magnificent fireworks display over the Olympic Park. A full two minutes top class pyrotechnics coloured the night sky in brilliant shades and patterns.
